Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails team up to take on Shadow, a formidable new foe that possesses powers that are unlike anything they have ever encountered. In order to stop Shadow and save the Earth, Team Sonic must find an odd alliance because their skills are completely outmatched.
Project Shadow, a top-secret weapon, resurfaces and wreaks havoc on the planet. When Team Sonic tries to step in, Shadow's abilities are too strong for them to manage. After that, Sonic chooses to join Robotnik on their global journey.
